After 40 years, Michael Myers is returning home.
David Gordon Green resurrects The Shape in the newest Halloween, which follows the events in John Carpenter’s seminal 1978 slasher of the same name. In addition to the return of Myers, Jamie Lee Curtis is back once again as Laurie Strode, only this time she’s prepared for a fight. The film erases all sequels to the franchise, which means that we’re to ignore Strode’s revenge in H20…and that she’s Myers’ sister. There is no family turmoil here, just unadulterated darkness and rage.
All that said, the first trailer explains what happened following the events in Carpenter’s film, which lands Myers in shackles for 40 years. There’s a fantastic moment in which the Shape’s mask is reintroduced and fun dialogue that writes away some of the sequel’s damaging (that’s debatable) mythology – such as Laurie being related to Michael. Also, if you’re wondering about how violent it’s going to be, there’s a shot where Myers drops a handful of teeth in front of someone…
